Student Volunteers

Volunteer service is limited to services performed by a student as part of an agency program established for the purpose of providing educational experience for the student. The work is done strictly on an uncompensated basis. The acceptance of student volunteer services enables departments and agencies to contribute to the enrichment of educational programs. It provides exposure to the work environment and also provides an opportunity for students to make realistic decisions regarding their future careers. This program is conducted through a written agreement between NRL and the educational institution. Applications are accepted from students on a year round basis and are kept on file in the Human Resources Office (HRO) for 6 months.

1. Eligibility Requirements

The only requirement for participation in this program is that Federal, State, and local laws and standards regarding the employment of minors be obeyed. In this area, a student may not be employed under the age of 16 and must obtain a work permit if under the age of 18.

2. Appointment

Since most of our positions are in the area of engineering and physical sciences, NRL accepts high school and college students with an interest in those areas.

You may apply online

You may apply by mail. Download an application form (MS Word format) and attach either a resume or an OF-612. You must also attach a list of college courses and grades.
